How do I know if my pearls need restringing?
All high end pearls like Mikimoto are traditionally strung on 100% pure silk. However, silk can deteriorate over time. Environmental conditions can play a role too, humidity, perspiration, skin lotions and perfumes can all break down the silk strength.
Look for discoloration of the silk thread and loose knots. Regularly restringing your pearls will keep them looking their best and prevent loss of pearls should the strand break unexpectedly due to deteriorated fraying silk.
What is graduation correction?
When we talk about a graduated strand of pearls we think of the traditional largest pearl in the center tapering out to the smallest pearls to the ends, clearly noticeable.
But did you know that practically all pearl strands are graduated, even when they appear to be all the same size.
When shopping for pearls you will notice they always give a range in size. (7.00 to 7.50 mm)
Novice pearl stringers do not know this and mistakenly put all the pearls into a bowl and mix up their carefully laid out order. When the graduation order is not kept correct the strand looks haphazard, uneven and unprofessional.
Graduation Correction is a service where the order is restored to its original perfection. $25 plus the cost of stringing.
